Anagen support (growth phase): Ingredients that help nudge follicles toward the active growth phase in preclinical and/or clinical studies.
Scalp ecosystem: Antimicrobial, antioxidant, or soothing actions that keep the scalp comfortableβ€”an essential base for healthy-looking hair.
Fiber care: Emollients and conditioners that reduce breakage, increase slip, and improve shineβ€”so the length you grow is the length you keep.
We’re transparent about evidencestrength: Human RCT (randomizedcontrolled trial), Human(non-randomized), Animal, In vitro/mechanistic (lab), and Traditional.

What the research saysβ€”ingredient by ingredient

Rice Bran COβ‚‚ Extract Rosemary Oil / COβ‚‚ Extract Peppermint Essential Oil Bhringraj Hibiscus Amla Jasmine Sweet Almond Oil

Rice Bran COβ‚‚ Extract (RB-SCE) β€” our density & thickness anchor

  • Why we use it: Among botanicals, RB-SCE has one of the strongest human signals for visible hair metrics.
  • Evidence:
    • Human RCT (topical, 16 weeks): In adults with androgenetic alopecia, 0.5% RB-SCE significantly increased hair density and hair diameter vs. placebo and was well tolerated.
    • Animal: RB-SCE and key components ( linoleic acid, Ξ³-oryzanol) induced anagen and increased follicle numbers in vivo.
  • How it helps in Motiya: We include rice-bran derivatives in our Fortifying Shampoo Bar, Fortifying Conditioner Bar, and treatment oils to support the look of fuller, thicker hair over consistent use.

Rosemary Oil / COβ‚‚ Extract β€” comparative human data

  • Why we use it: A time-tested aromatic with modern clinical support
  • Evidence:

Human RCT (6 months, nβ‰ˆ100): Rosemary oil performed similarly to 2% minoxidil for hair-count improvements in androgenetic alopecia, with itching more common in the minoxidil group.
Human (blend, alopecia areata): An essential-oil massage blend that included rosemary outperformed carrier oil alone; this supports the value of topical massage + aromatics, although attribution to rosemary alone isn’t possible.

  • How it helps in Motiya: We pair rosemary with RB-SCE across the range to support micro-circulation, antioxidant balance, and ritual massage adherence (the daily habit that makes results possible).

Peppermint Essential Oil β€” an anagen β€œspark” (preclinical)

  • Why we use it: Sensory cooling that encourages consistent massageβ€”and compelling animal data.
  • Evidence:
    • Animal (4 weeks, mice): 3% peppermint oil increased follicle number/depth, IGF-1, and anagen inductionβ€”with hair-growth scores greater than 3% minoxidil in that model. Human trials are needed.
  • How it helps in Motiya: Included at cosmetic-appropriate levels in Soothing Hair Oil and Hair Repair Oil to complement our human-evidence anchors.

Bhringraj (Eclipta alba/prostrata) β€” classic Ayurvedic support

  • Evidence:
    • Animal: Extracts of Eclipta alba accelerated entry into anagen, increased hair length, follicle counts, and skin thickness vs. controls.
  • How it helps in Motiya: Featured in Soothing Hair Oil and Hair Repair Oil as part of our multi-active approach informed by tradition and preclinical science.

Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis / H. sabdariffa) β€” potential 5-Ξ±-reductase pathway effects

  • Evidence:
    • Animal: Topical hibiscus extracts increased hair length and anagen follicles in rats.
    • Mechanistic: Early work suggests inhibition of 5-Ξ±-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, a pathway targeted by medical hair-loss therapies; human topical data remain limited.
  • How it helps in Motiya: We use hibiscus as an adjunct to clinical-signal anchors (RB-SCE, rosemary) in our oils.

Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) β€” antioxidant scalp support; emerging human data (oral)

  • Evidence:
    • Human RCT (oral syrup, 12 weeks): In women with androgenetic alopecia, amla syrup improved anagen metrics vs. placebo; this informs biological plausibility but is oral, not topical.
  • How it helps in Motiya: In our treatment oils, amla contributes antioxidant and scalp-comfort support alongside stronger topical anchors.

Jasmine (Jasminum sambac) β€” ritual sensorial + scalp ecosystem

  • Evidence:
    • In vitro: Jasmine extracts/essential oil show antifungal and antibacterial activity (including activity against Malassezia, a common scalp yeast), and antioxidant effectsβ€”mechanisms relevant to scalp comfort. Human hair-growth trials are limited.
  • How it helps in Motiya: We chose jasmine as our signature note to make the ritual pleasurable and consistent, while supporting a balanced scalp environment.

Sweet Almond Oil β€” fiber slip, shine & scalp comfort

  • Evidence:
    • Safety & derm use: Independent cosmetic-safety panels conclude sweet almond oil is safe in current cosmetic use and widely utilized as an emollient to support barrier function and reduce dryness/roughness. Avoid if you have nut allergies.
  • How it helps in Motiya: In our oils and conditioner bar, almond oil improves slip, reduces snagging and breakage, and boosts shineβ€”so hair retains length.

Multi-pathway design

  • Density & thickness anchors: Rice-bran COβ‚‚ extract (human RCT) + rosemary (human RCT) for visible density/diameter support over time.
  • Anagen support, sensorial adherence: Peppermint and bhringraj provide preclinical growth-phase signals and a cooling stimulus that encourages consistent massage, a key variable in topical outcomes.
  • Scalp ecosystem: Jasmine (antimicrobial/antioxidant) and amla (antioxidant) help keep the scalp comfortable, which supports a healthy look.
  • Fiber care: Almond oil reduces breakage and improves manageabilityβ€”so gains in density and diameter are visible along the length.

Rituals that people keep

Our sensorial profile (especially jasmine + peppermint cooling) turns care into a habitβ€”and consistent daily use is exactly how the best botanical studies were conducted (e.g., 16 weeks for RB-SCE; 6 months for rosemary).

Fortifying Shampoo Bar
  • What it does: Cleanses without stripping; supports the look of fuller, thicker hair over time.
  • Why it works: Rice-bran derivatives (density/diameter support) + rosemary (clinical comparative signal) + gentle surfactants for scalp comfort. Use every wash to reinforce results.
Soothing Hair Oil
  • What it does: Calms the scalp feel and supports a balanced environment; ideal for itchy, tight, or flaky-prone scalps.
  • Why it works: Jasmine (antimicrobial/antioxidant), amla (antioxidant), hibiscus (preclinical anagen/5-AR signals), rosemary, and peppermint (cooling, massage adherence). Use 2–3Γ—/week with fingertip massage.
Fortifying Conditioner Bar
  • What it does: Detangles, improves slip, reduces breakage, boosts shine.
  • Why it works: Emollient butters/oils (including almond oil) smooth the cuticle while rice-bran + rosemary keep the routine aligned to our growth-phase anchors.
Hair Repair Oil
  • What it does: Targets breakage, adds shine, and supports the appearance of density when used consistently with shampoo/conditioner.
  • Why it works: Almond oil for fiber slip + bhringraj and peppermint for preclinical anagen support, layered over rosemary and rice-bran anchors. Apply lengths/ends daily; scalp massage 2–3Γ—/week.

What to expect (and when)

Consistency window

Most botanical studies showing visible change ran 12–16 weeks (RB-SCE) and ~6 months (rosemary). That’s our recommended commitment for seeing a full cosmetic result.

Realistic outcomes

Cosmetic formulas can support the look of density and thickness, reduce breakage, and improve manageability. For medical hair-loss treatment, consult a clinician.

How to use the Motiya ritual

  • Oil: Massage Soothing or Repair Oil into scalp/lengths (30–120 minutes pre-wash, or overnight as tolerated).
  • Cleanse: Fortifying Shampoo Bar.
  • Condition: Fortifying Conditioner Bar.

Repeat regularly; ritual consistency is where results compound.

Safety & Transparency

  • Our products are cosmetics, not drugs; we don’t claim to treat or cure medical hair-loss conditions.
  • Patch test essential-oil products; avoid use near eyes. Do not use almond-containing products if you have nut allergies. See product pages for full INCI lists and usage guidance.
